Vegetable Garden Planting: The Easy Guide To Growing Vegetables Planting vegetables is a very pleasurable “hobby” to get into these days. Not only is it recreational, it also is an important undertaking to ensure safety from our current food sources. The use of pesticides is very common, and while we are outsourcing our vegetables from the supermarkets or elsewhere, we run the risk of eating contaminated fresh produce. This is just not acceptable due to the fact that we can always have our own vegetable garden in our backyards. Vegetable garden planting is becoming popular to city folks and for everybody that is far from the farms and certified organic vegetable sources.

So just how do you go about planting vegetables? The first thing you can do is to plan for your garden. Its location is very important. It must have some distance from your house to make sure enough sunlight is given to your plants (at least six full hours). The location must also have good drainage so that water will not “puddle” after the rain. Flooding is also a very big concern. Air circulation is important but not too much as areas that are too windy can easily break the plants. Also make sure that the garden is near your water source for your own convenience.

Consider the size of your garden so that you do not over extend yourself in looking out for it. You might have a big garden but at the same time awfully neglected, with weeds all over and pests left unchecked. This is a waste and defeats the whole purpose of gardening. After determining the garden size that you can manage well with your available resources and time, plan for the varieties of vegetables you want to grow. Make sure this compliments the preference of your family’s daily consumption. The better you plan for this, the more beneficial the garden is to you and your family.

Prepare the soil accordingly before you start with vegetable garden planting and make sure that it is well supplied with organic matter for it to be fertile enough for your young plants to actually grow. Also make sure to check for too much stones and pebbles. Just before planting, make sure that the soil is not too wet or too dry for the plants to take root and eventually flourish.
